Photographer: “I’d like to try to imitate this picture that I found in a magazine/you mentioned liking/etc.”
This happens every time – great attention is paid to my pose, styling, props etc. But no attention is given to what actually makes the sample photo so wonderful. Which is usually the light. Shot in different light, the same composition is a totally different image.
You can’t try to copy something, shoot it in different light from a different angle and hope it comes out the same – that’s not how your camera works!!! =D I’m all for using an image as a starting point and building from there…its the poorly executed attempts at an exact copy that get me.
